Sep 25, 2006 · So, I am wondering what the typical grouping would be for ten shots fired from a 9mm pistol at a target at 50 yards, for a "good" pistol shooter, shooting offhand, not from a rest. Aug 01, 2014 · The 25-yard zero climbs over the point-of-aim at 25 yards and only reaches approximately 2/10″ before falling back through point-of-aim again at 50 yards. This is a pretty flat trajectory, but the 30-yard zero looses its attractiveness as it drops down to 5.37″ below point-of-aim at 100 yards.
Jun 12, 2016 · Unless your pistol has an elevation adjustment (almost none do), it is likely zeroed at 25 yards, though you may still have to adjust windage for zero. Even so, a pistol’s relatively low mechanical offset allows hits at 3 to 7 yards to be quite close to your point of aim.

  • Option one is to adjust your laser, so it intersects the path of the bullet at a certain distance. This is how a scope on a rifle works. Where you might “zero” a rifle at 100 yards, you’ll probably zero a pistol and laser at a much closer distance, maybe somewhere between 10 and 25 yards.
  • For me, I've found that at ranges of 25 or 30 yards, it really doesn't matter. Most of the time, hand thrown powder charges varies about 0.02 grain and extreme spreads are in the 60-ft/sec range. These still wallow out a hole when I do my part.
  • This pistol has a 4.0″ coned barrel, Match Grade and stainless, perfectly crowned. I didn’t have a chance to bench it but several hundred rounds through the gun indicated it would live up to the manufacturer’s promise of 1.5″ groups at 25 yards. The dished muzzle crown helps.
  • At 120 yards, it's about 1.6" above the LOA, then drops, intersecting the LOA again at 200 yards. This is the second, or primary, zero. At 300 yards, it's about 7" low. Looking at the graph with the 200 yard zero, the point of impact (POI) at 100 yards would be about 1.6" above the point of aim (POA). At 240, the POI will be 2" below the POA.

Lovex D036.07 supports this theory because obviously, this powder "Ultimate Pistol" is WAY too fast of a powder to be used in 9MM Major. And the measurements, support this. Whereas, you look at Blue Dot and IMR Blue, and AA#7, 3 of the slowest powders on this list, and it makes perfect sense they would be lowest pressure in the group we think.

Sighting-in a pistol to hit a certain number of inches high at 25, 50, or 100 yards (or meters) maximizes the point blank range of the gun and cartridge and is superior to zeroing at a fixed distance. This system maximizes the distance in which no "hold over" is necessary.
